English Typing Speed Test — SSC CHSL, LDC, Court
Measure your typing WPM and accuracy using government-job style paragraphs. Calibrated for the SSC CHSL standard (35 WPM minimum, 7% mistakes allowed). Choose 1, 2, 5, or 10 minute duration.
SSC CHSL Typing Standards
For LDC (Lower Division Clerk) and JSA (Junior Secretariat Assistant) posts under SSC CHSL, the qualifying typing speed is 35 WPM in English (equivalent to 10,500 keystrokes per hour) or 30 WPM in Hindi (9,000 KPH). The test runs for 10 minutes and allows up to 7% mistakes — beyond that, the candidate is declared failed regardless of speed. PwD candidates get 5 minutes extra. For Court typist and DEO posts, the requirement is higher (typically 40+ WPM English).
How to Practice Effectively
Sit with both feet flat, wrists straight, elbows at 90°, eyes at screen level. Use the 10-finger touch typing method: left fingers cover A-S-D-F (index on F), right on J-K-L-; (index on J). The little bumps on F and J help you find home position without looking. Start at 50% of your target speed prioritizing 100% accuracy, then gradually push pace. Don't look at the keyboard — this is the single biggest speed gain over time. Most candidates reach 35 WPM in 2-3 months of daily practice.
WPM Calculation Method
This tool uses the standard 5-character-per-word definition that government typing tests follow. So 35 WPM = 35 × 5 = 175 characters per minute = 10,500 characters per hour — matching the official SSC requirement. WPM is calculated from correctly typed characters only — mistakes don't count toward speed. Combine with the Hindi Typing Test if your post needs both languages.
