How the Resizer Works

The tool first scales your photo to the target pixel dimensions using HTML5 Canvas, then progressively reduces JPEG quality (from 92% downward) until the file size fits under your target KB. Most government portals reject photos above their stated limit, so we keep dropping quality in 4% steps until we cross the threshold.

Common Government Portal Specifications

SSC (CGL, CHSL, MTS, GD): photo 100×120, max 20KB; signature 140×60, max 12KB. UPSC: photo 350×350, max 100KB; signature 350×100, max 60KB. IBPS / SBI: photo 200×230, max 50KB; signature 140×60, max 20KB. Railway: photo 35×45mm, max 100KB. Aadhaar enrollment: photo 150×200, max 50KB. The "Quick Presets" buttons cover the most common ones.

Tips for the Best Result

Start with the highest-resolution photo you have — aggressive compression looks worse on tiny source images. Use the Passport Photo Maker first to crop to the right aspect ratio, then come back here to hit the exact KB target. For combined photo + signature uploads (common on banking portals), use the Photo + Signature Joiner.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I resize a photo to 20KB for an SSC application?
Click "SSC Photo" preset (100×120, 20KB) or set width 100px, height 120px, target 20KB manually. Upload your photo and click Resize & Compress. The tool reduces quality progressively until the file fits under 20KB.
What size photo and signature does UPSC require?
UPSC online forms require photo of 350×350 pixels (max 100KB) and signature of 350×100 pixels (max 60KB). Both in JPG format. Use the "UPSC Photo" preset for the photo dimensions and target size.
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. All resizing happens entirely in your browser using HTML5 Canvas. Your photo never leaves your device — nothing is uploaded, stored, or transmitted. The page works offline once loaded.
Why does my resized image look blurry?
Aggressive KB compression reduces JPEG quality. If image looks too blurry, try a larger KB target or start from a higher-resolution source photo. The tool shows the achieved quality % below the result.
What is the difference between resizing and compressing?
Resizing changes pixel dimensions (e.g. 4000×3000 → 200×260). Compressing reduces file size at the same dimensions by lowering quality. This tool does both — dimensions first, then quality adjustment to hit the KB target.
